What is different between Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach?

I'm talking about San Diego of course

Pacific Beach is more of a young college student and Yuppie area with far more clubs and bars. . Ocean Beach is more kick back and like beach towns in the 60-70's. A lot of us old hippie/surfer types live here.

Not all of us that have long hair are homeless or slinging drugs down by the beach. A lot of us are either disabled or early retirement guys that have grown up on the beaches in san diego county. I spent my adult life working as an engineer until I got injured by a drunk driver.

And at least here the homeless guys by the pier don't bug the heck out of you panhandling. The homeless population seems to keep to themselves pretty much and keep the homeless guys from areas like downtown in check about bumming money off people.

But yeah the drug problem here is more out in the open and it seems to be more pot heads than crack heads or tweekers.

About 5 miles of coastline.

Honestly though, I think that PB is a bit cleaner than OB. I work in OB, and there is never a day that goes by where there aren't HEAPS of dead seaweed on the sand. Homeless populations are bit more prevalent in OB as well. But if you're looking for a "hippie" hangout, OB's your town.

ob - from what I gather, has a reputation as being more laid back, more homeless, more drug use. personally, I prefer OB because the people are more relaxed and seem more friendly. also, the parking is easier.

pb - again, "from what I gather," has a reputation as being the party area with a younger population who likes to party. Personally, seems to me the people are a little more amped and agitated. I believe since it's widely known there are so many parties there, the police target this area...therefore I commonly refer to PB as "DUI-Central" because I've had a lot of friends get dui's there. (so when I go there, I make sure I'm watching my alcohol intake or have a designated driver/taxi/etc.) My friends who live there complain of loud parties that keep them up on week nights. If you like to party, you might really like it! also, the parking is harder to come by in pb, from my experience.

both areas offer their fair share of fun socializing and activities. just kinda depends on what you're into.
