Is Mission Valley a nice area to stay while vacationing?

I'm planning to stay at either Sheraton or Doubletree in Mission Valley. Not planning to rent a car. Is it easy to get around San Diego by trolley/bus? Which hotel do you suggest, also?

The Doubletree is across the street from the Trolley station, it is in the same complex as Joe's Crab Shack and Applebees, it is 1/2 block from a movie theater and 1 block from a grocery store (food 4 Less). They also have really good cookies... The Sheraton is 1/2 block from Denny's and Wendys it is a long 3 blocks over the freeway to Mission Valley Center for shopping, restaurants and the trolley stop. They are both great hotels with excellent service and staff. You will be pleased with either one. the Doubletree is also a long 3 blocks from Mission Valley center but on the north side of the freeway. And yes the transit system here is clean, easy, and efficient.

I always prefer staying downtown in the Gaslamp area rather than Mission Valley. Lot to do there, easy to take the trolley to Old Town, Fashion/Mission Valley.

If you stay in Mission Valley area, the trolley does go through the shopping centers so it will be easy to get around.

I think staying downtown is best, near the gaslamp area, there is lots to do down there. If you want you can take a trolley, however if you wanted to spend the day in La Jolla, take a cab, or the bus. Have you looked into the Hard Rock hotel, it's right smack dab in the middle of everything? I would look into that if I were you.

Heres a map for you, to see how close the Hard Rock is to everything, and just the area altogether.

Enjoy your trip.

I always tell friends to stay at the Doubletree in Mission Valley. It's in a nice complex called Hazard Center. You can walk to great restaurants, a movie cineplex, Barnes & Noble, and of course a Starbucks. It's centrally located about 2 miles from Seaworld and 3 miles from the Zoo. And there is a trolley stop right out front in case you are feeling adventurous. Good luck and enjoy our beautiful city.
