Question about where to stay in San Francisco?

I plan on going to SF with my boy friend who has never been there for Spring Break. We have the option of staying at the Westin in Union Square or the Marriott down at the Wharf. I have been there and before stayed in Union Square. Does anyone have any suggestions where would be better to stay, Union Square or the Wharf. We want to do all the touristy things and some shopping.

Definitely Union Square. If you want to do the touristy things on Fishermans Wharf, it is very easy to take a cable car or bus (30 Stockton on Stockton@Post) from where you are staying. You will have a much more enjoyable stay downtown, you can step out of your hotel in the evening and find a decent restaurant, unlike FW, which is on the extreme end of touristy. Staying in Union Square will provide the opportunity for you to experience the city. FW is just a tourist trap.

Have fun!

Union Square

Union Square is the better option it is the 3rd largest shopping area in the world. There are also lots more restaurants, clubs, and theatres in that area. Public transportation options abound as well making it easy to get all over the city.

Fisherman's Wharf is pretty much all tourist stuff [souviner shops, chain restaurants, etc] and not as centrally located.

Enjoy your stay!

yup ya should stay near union sq. it's a really awesome area. many shops etc....
