What are of san fracisco has lots of crime and we should not go to?

The South-Eastern section of the city. A general guideline is don't hang around in the area South of Cesar Chavez St and East of San Jose Ave/280... which encompasses the areas of Outer Mission, Bayview/Hunter's Point, Alemany, Visitacion Valley, etc... Though even some of that area (certain parts of Excelsior, Outer Mission, etc...) aren't bad, and are actually kinda neat.

The Western Addition isn't actually bad, despite some of the comments here... just stay away from the Eddy/Laguna intersection and anything within about 2 blocks of if... it's a very high crime area, but isolated to that one small portion. The Tenderloin and Market St area (between about 10th St and 5th St or so) isn't particularly dangerous either... just don't get involved in drugs/buy anything from anyone on the street and you're fine. The area has a fair share of drug crimes, but not really gang activity or anything. In fact, it's very popular with art students and families (as it's cheap). It's safe as long as you keep your head about you.

Other than that, the city is for the most part quite safe.

Stay away from the zoo.

Western Addition, some parts of the north and east Mission, Hunters Point/Excelsior have gang activity.

Parts of the Tenderloin at night.

just stay away from Hunter point..T.L..some parts of Filmore..but great place to visit..just go for a walk at pier 39

If you are visiting SF, I think any place of interest is safe. Don't worry about it unless you plan to buy or sell drugs or get involved in gang activity.

All cities in the world have crime...not just San Francisco.
