What can a mom do in San Jose while her daughter is at the Fanime convention in May?

I will be in San Jose from Friday morning till Sunday night with two girls attending the Fanime convention in May--what does anyone recommend as far as sight-seeing, shopping, restaurants, walking places? We are staying near the convention center--I'd like to walk but could drive or take public transportation.

Fanime is not "crap." That's a narrow minded, judgmental answer--just what I'm hoping my daughter does NOT become in life!! Keep your blinders on--keep believing what's different is "bad," anything different is "crap," and your way is the ONLY way. I feel sorry for your kids!!

There is so much to do!

- The Tech Museum will definitely benefit you AND your two girls.
- Definitely go to Original Joe's downtown to eat, there WILL be a wait though. Everytime I've gone I've had to wait at least 45 minutes.
- Where are you coming from? You can always try The Cheesecake Factory, however, that may be a little far from you.
- If you decide to go to the Cheesecake Factory (there's one in Valleyfair Mall) then you should stop by Santana Row! (right across the street from Valleyfair) I love shopping there, it's wonderful! They have stores from Urban Outfitters to Gucci, to Burberry! Also great if you want to just walk around after a great meal.

I hope you have a great time in San Jose! (=

go to the club and get crunk

I'll answer your question with another question. Why would you let your daughter go see that crap in the first place?

there are museums...haha :] and lots of malls

Here are a couple of links to some things to do in the area while you are here.

As I understand it, Fanime started out *** a "Free Anime" convention.
Anime is a Japanese cartoon art form. As its' American counterpart, some has more of an adult content than others.
Contrary to what some may think, it is not all smut. Yet even still, it might be worth walking around with the girls a bit. If nothing else it will give you a little bonding and something to talk about back home.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

I would definitely go to the Tech Museum which should be walking distance from your hotel. Go to Original Joe's (Italian/American food) for a meal with your daughters. It is also walking distance from the convention center.

The light rail may be a good sightseeing tour as it runs right outside of the convention center.

You can go to Winchester House. It is near by Valley Fair Mall. You can shop there . Try California Pizza Kitchen and Chesse Cake Factory.

i would suggest going shopping. i visited san jose once, and the shopping is nice. however, san jose is filled w/ thiefs, so be careful.

Definately go on a tour of the Winchester Mystery House. It is a really fun tour with lots of interesting and historical information. If there is transportation available she could zip up to Fremont and visit the San Jose Mission. :)

Don't go to the winchester mystery house, that place is overrated and kinda lame.

You're definitely going to need a car to get around, San Jose is very spread out and I really don't think there's anything that great near the convention center...but I recommend santana row. It has a really nice atmosphere, and great high-end shops. Also there are several movie theaters within walking distance, and the huge valley fair mall is across the street.

If you are willing to drive a bit further you should check out Los Gatos or Saratoga. they both have really nice little downtown areas.
