Fregate Island Stay...?

anybody been to fregate island?! and was it worth the cost?!

Tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, 1.3 long by 0.8 wide. No roads no nothing....

Fregat Island is the grantic island furthest from Mahe.It is accessible by plane, helicopter or boat. A five star resort was opend there in 1999. It has spectacular beaches and Anse Victorin in the northwest was voted by London's Sunday Times as the world's best beach. In earlier days Fregate is said to have been a haven for pirates.

3. COMMENTS BY GUESTS

I.Fregate Island is indeed a tropical paradise. The beaches are simply pristine and the water is clear and warm. Unfortunately the resort has been constructed on a series of steep cliffs poised over the pounding sea. To reach the beaches requires a drive or a hike. The drive involves a cheap, poorly powered golf cart while the hike entails toiling up and down treacherous stone steps and steep inclines. The villas are comprised of two seperate buildings with thatched roofs and slippery-when-wet, varnished pine decking. Every morning our jacuzzi featured a floating creature of some description. Either a drowned brown skink or bright green gecko. The millipedes literally rained down from the ceilling, leaving sticky stains on the carpets and beautiful linen. The quality of the food (bearing in mind that the resort is all-inclusive of food) was good with delightful menu selections changing each day. We particularly enjoyed the freshly baked cookies and roasted cashew nuts in the villas.
Several requests made to the Reception staff were simply ignored or forgotten. We eventually had to confirm our own international flights and our passports were only returned on the day of departure. Messages were lost and it seemed that the staff, though willing, were badly organised and poorly trained. During our stay, we learned from a few of our favorite staff members that a number of significant management changes had occurred on the island recently. The staff organisation appeared confused and disorientated.
The beautiful beaches, glorious sea, abundant fauna and flora are all, unfortunately overshadowed by the lacklustre service, dated facilites, lack of comfort and aloof attitude of management. There is no value for money and we will be looking elsewhere for our next vacation. When looking to book a beach/island getaway, we envisioned warm, balmy nights; relaxed yet elegant comfort; value for money and an experience not to forget. I would recommend North Island for all of the above.
