"It sucks being prey when it seems everyone else is trying to be predator!"?

This is a passage from an e-mail that I received from a friend in Cape Town.
I thought some here may be able to relate to it...

"...but Cape Town at night time definitely has a dark feel, a lot of weird and strange under currents, it is at this time that criminals earn their daily bread. It's a really weird feeling with so many strange, dark and evil things going on. I compare it to the jungle where all the slimy, crawly, nocturnal, scummy predators come out to catch their piece of meat for the evening.
Cape Town really has some horrible, mean, disgusting f5ckers wandering the streets at night.
And then comes daylight and everything is a little better and a little safer, and everyone can carry on and pretend that life is OK living in this wonderful city of Cape Town.
Man it sucks being prey when it seems everyone else is trying to be predator!"

I feel the same every night. Its like a horror movie. Like "I am legend". Everything is fine while the sun is shining. We go to DVD stores and chat to friends and do our normal things. But then our alarm clocks go off, to alert us it is heading towards night time. We then scurry into our houses and hide in the baths. I know I do. It may even sound foolish, but I have the doors open during the day, (ok security gates locked) but as soon as the sun sets, I close all the doors and the curtains and sit with my Zapper and pepper spray next to me. The sunlight makes it almost bareable. As if it is ok because at least we can 'see them coming'. But whether its day or night, they will come, if they want it that bad, light or dark, it makes no difference to them.

I do, this past week I felt very insecure at night. When the dogs bark my hair stand on end. I am so prepared for robbers breaking into my house .....it is quite pathetic. I think fear also breeds aggression.............so if I wake up in the middle of the night and there is a person in my room.....I would propably kill him with my bare hands. 10 years ago I would not even have considered punching some one.....today I would shoot to kill.

You don't have to live anywhere exotic or sunshiny to be a victim of scum. To be honest, I would Rat Out a peice of crap trying to prey off anyone. I've been ripped off too many times because of my generousity, and now I know who the phonies are , and they Run! I see it in their eyes and they cut short their Bullcrap and crawl back into the sewers. Sounds like CapeTown needs a Superhero. GoodLuck

The only way to survive is to become a predators predator.
Be prepared to fight and don't forget, on the street there are no rules, when you put someone down that is trying to hurt you or your family you make sure that he stays down, you will be doing his next victim a big favour.

I live in Cape Town, and your friend is right...night life in town has turned to sh!t.

I moved here in 2002. And since then town has become so scummy. Drug pushers on every corner in Long Street. Dodgy elements in the clubs. I've been mugged twice, attacked twice, one of those times being in the foyer of my building, by 2 men (if not for knowing how to protect myself I would now be a rape statistic) and had an attempted break in. And I live in the "safe" part of CT.

So much for a safe city.

Nighttime used to be a genuine nightmare. Daytime was idyllic, peaceful and like lliving in another world. Until our dogs cornered an intruder in the garden at 10 am in the morning, his tjommie was waiting on the other side of the fence. After that daytime also became a nightmare.

My best defence was an old instamatic camera. Each time someone came near the fence or the gate, out would come the camera and I would happily click at the person. Asked what I was doing, I said that I was capturing his picture for the police. I was convinced that this kept many would-be burglars away!

I read this on one of these weirdo sites I visit:

Wealthy sodomites from across the globe are powdering their backsides in gleeful anticipation of having their sphincters stretched in sunny South Africa. Poef-boewe in Cape Town, voted as one of the top 5 moffie magnets in the world, are fluffing their feathers furiously and throwing their vaseline jugs out of their cots because they will now have to share their 鈥檌ncome鈥?with other ******-friendly areas in Azania.

wow i have never been there but i have lived in fear in a similar situation. yes it does suck and that is really an understatement.
