Can one buy stun guns or pepper spray legally in South Africa?

No licence needed to carry this stuff?

Yes over the counter from R 50 for pepperspray. Also you do not need a license for an antique fire arm (voorlaaier) gun made before 1.01.1900 or a replica there of. So now everyone are buying these beautiful replicas they call it black powder guns, you only need a license for the "buskruit" which you get at any SAP station. Anyway although it is slow..........that is how we won the Battle of Bloodriver. They are also now making replicas of those old antique pistols. I want one. My friend shot a pumpkin with one (water melons are too expensive) and the whole thing disintergrated - exploded.....COOL

I'm sure you can.

My ex employer bought us pepper spray and one guy here at work had a stun gun with him yesterday. Though he was only happy to buzz it around the office like an idiot.

Oh yes.....just go to a security shop near you. Pepperspray you can get from most places. It's over the counter. :) Not that expensive either.

I work for a club..they brought us an entire suitcase full of stuff. Stunguns, pepperspray...the works. Had good fun with that stungun...scared my barmen :)

Nope.....no licenses needed.

Yes of course! I have a pepper spray in my hand bag, and a stun gun at home. It packs a whopping 100 000 volts! Just the ZAPPING sound is enough to scar anyone away. Security shops have a wide variety of things you can buy.

There has been an uproar about street vendors now selling Pepper Spray and Stun Guns at robots - headline in local community newspaper:

"We are doing out bit to Fight the Crime..."

The only issue with this is - is the person approaching you with the Pepper Spray or Stun Gun - "fighting the crime" or are they going to give you a thorough JOLT and bugger off with you Laptop and Cellphone - eish!!!
