What should we do to to make Trinidad Peaceful island in Caribbean ?

This year, so far, 60 murders have been recorded compared with 38 last year for the same period, 50 in 2006 and 44 in 2005. MALONEY'S second shooting incident in three days claimed the life of a teenager Tuesday night. 17-year-old Roshawn Williams was shot dead while liming with friends outside Building Five at Maloney Gardens around 8.15 p.m. His family's apartment is in that building. Williams, also known as "Monster", died on the spot after he was shot three times, to the head and body. A nickname family members said he may have received because of his towering height. Williams was shot about 300 metres from the Maloney Sports Complex where he frequently played basketball. However, speaking at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, Williams' mother, who declined to give her name, said the Millennium club basketball player did not intend to play his favourite sport that fatal night. Williams was wearing a black jersey, grey pants and orange and grey Nike sneakers.

Prayer is always a good thing eh, you could never do too much of that but Trinidad needs CHANGE. One of the things I really love about Trinidad is ironically one of the things that is bringing us down. I always over here talking about how Trinis don't take much of anything too seriously and that is why we're not stressed out and jumping off buildings like Americans but truth be told is that mentality self that is allowing crime to run rampant in the island. Nothing is urgent. Nothing is important. Police officers taking hours to respond to calls, police reports getting lost, evidence disappearing, witnesses mysteriously forgetting details, money flowing free sheet in the police stations, majestrates postponing cases for months and months and then letting people off with a slap. We can still be the special people that we are and do things right man. We just need to wake up and realize there is a time and place for that mentality and it should NEVER be within our justice system. You really feel if these criminals thought there was a prayer that they would get what they deserved they would be committing these blatant crimes?

I also think a lot of it has to do with our youth and their lack of discipline in the homes and in the schools. We making the mistake of following American society and giving children "rights" and "a voice". What rights you had growing up? What voice you had growing up? Stopping children from getting they tail cut in school was the biggest mistake ever. I remember clearly in my day I had utmost respect for "Miss" because I know if I didn't behave myself is guava whip in meh backside! It isn't even about being able to beat children, it's about making them understand from early that there consequences to their actions. Nowadays they in primary school stabbing up their teachers. What kind of madness is that? If there are no boundaries and no consequences at that age you think they will study boundaries or fear consequences when fast and easy drug money staring them in the face? Or that old lady handbag handing so loose from her hand? Or that tourist have on so much jewelry?

Unfortunately we seeing the answer to those questions every day.....

Like Pepper so rightly said, we need to pray for our nation. Prayer brings about change. We as a people also need to commit to change, celebrate the good things we still have and strive to change those things that are dragging us down.

Man arrested on Long Island for the murder of a 21 year old North Carolina correction officer. In New York police on search for a rape suspect. Police said the man is posing as a police officer and he was last seen in a black sweat shirt and a New York Yankees hat. Police are warning young women on the East Side to be weary of suspicious men.

Last week a man was arrested in Brooklyn for making pipe bombers intended to be used for hate crimes against Jews.

Travels be carefull while visiting NY as crime in certain areas are high.

I'm so sorry I was just comparing it to a place in the US that people loooovvveee to visit.

When I find news on Iraq I'll compare TnT to that. They both have oil, cars, people, and both TnT and Iraq have money to burn. That is why so much foreigner flooding both countries.

But please accept my apology. When I find enough crime issue in war torn Iraq I'll come back and edit to compare to the gun toting gangs on tanks, with they appache helicopters terrorizing the people daily in the street of Trinidad.

Pray. But you think that's bad, you check out the Virgin Islands lately. Upon all those Murderings, Raping, Molestings, and Vandalizings. They just Bun Down 1 out of the two public Highschool offices. So now we don't have school.

WHY can't we compare T&T to the U.S????
Last year people were talking bout how New york with so many mils of people had only about 500 murders and how come T&T with a smaller population had soooo many.
I think if you could compare it like that, then we should also compare it as T.S did. Fair??
Now on to the question.....Personally I think in order to make T&T peaceful...EACH AND EVERYONE needs to take responsibility for their actions. Too many of us only consider crime to mean...man kill man...but as we all know there are so many more dimensions to the whole thing.

Everyone has do do their part - criminal are breed. Those of us who litter (even if its bio-digradelble) its still breaking the law, and using obscene language, etc - minor and petty things you may saw but it all adds up wrong is wrong!!!

I think we should have stiffer penalties for our crimes to deter criminal and of course a revamping of our horrible Court Systems which allows criminal to go free even though we know for certain that they did the crime. We also have to report crimes (annonymously of course) big or small! And mostly we have to lead the younger ones by setting the right example at all times

We need to pray.

And we need to pray for a National Security Minister who is brave enough or willing to do what it takes to re-structure, improve, modernize, decriminalize the police service. Because unless that is done, there is little we can do for fight crime in T&T.

Remember the young man who was shot dead by a Police Office on Divali. All he tell the officer is "Why yuh ruffin up de young man?" and get shot in the head....Damn police/bandit in de service must go.

I so in support of prayer, but pray for something specific.
I also think if more people did volunteer work, it would help a lot. Some people in our society need assistance, and it's just that more people need to be willing to give of their skills and time. I see charity as prayer in action...and yes though I am a registered ALTA tutor I haven't have a chance to tutor in the last two years, I hoping to start back possibly by September if I'm not in school.
