OK.. When Britney talk is allowed here I ask you the following question:
Do you like jazz?
Are there any good jazz clubs in Istanbul?
I know Nardis in Galata and Raddisson in Ortak枚y. Any others?
My style of jazz:
Frankie Trumbauer and His Orchestra (with Bix Beiderbecke on cornet) performing 'I'm Coming Virginia', recorded May 13 1927 in NYC, Bix's solo begins at 1:28

or
Miff Mole and His Molers (w Red Nichols on cornet and Miff Mole on Trombone) performing 'My Gal Sal', recorded September 1, 1927 in NYC:

I've been listening to jazz for more than 20 years now. Since 3 years, I have collected original 78 rpm (tas plak) of the 1920s and 1930s. My specialies are Bix Beiderbecke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bix_Beiderb... and his entourage, Billie Holiday and early Louis Armstrong (1923-1930). Some people have a car, I have my records... IMHO, the best recordings of Bix are the ones pressed by the OKeh label (Frankie Trumbauer and His Orchestra and Bix Beiderbecke and His Gang), particularly his recordings of 1927. Good quality CDs don't really exist. For beginners I would recommend: http://cgi.ebay.com/Bix-and-Tram-Bix-Bei...
Bille Holiday is IMHO the best jazz singer ever. I like her early recordings, particularly the ones from 1933-1938 the best. Her recordings from 1952 -1958 are of course, my Beyo臒lu'ndan kom艧um!

And I've also discover this one which is really nice too.
Anybody knows who is this band, please ?
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=uQUgOaH46o... I like "I'm Coming Virginia" but "Singin' The Blues" too. In another style I like "In A Mist". But if I've got some Bix CD's, I don't really know him. Hello Jazz hastas谋 dostum ;))
We actually needed an expert like you here, my friend, because , as you could noticed, people usually talk about cheap music (Eurovision,Britney and other garbage things), and we had to enhance the level of the section LOL
Well, I am not a Jazz-maniac, but I am especially fan of artists such as Chet Baker, Count Basie,Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, if we mean "old school"...
But in fact, even though we don't have to forget the roots of the genuine Jazz from New-Orleans and the times when Gospel and Rhythm&Blues met the european instruments., I am actually more into most recent Jazz...
I am more sensitive to Modern Jazz ( Miles Davies, Quincy Jones ),Latin-Jazz, Jazz-Funk ( George Benson, Al Jarreau), Jazz-Rock (Joe Zawinul), Caraibbean Jazz ( Alain Jean-Marie, Bethova Obas ), Oriental Jazz, and even the more "easy-listening style" genre called Smooth-Jazz (Four Play, Kenny G, Peter White,Brian Simpson, etc )...
I feel also touched by the vocal acapella style represented by the famous band Take 6.
Maybe because I am more influenced by other genres like classical Soul, Funk of the 80's,R&B of the 90's and 2000, and also most of the Latino genres( from spanish Flamenco to venezuelian/colombian Salsa... )
Well, I dedicate to all the section this magical melody performed by the Genius ...

Have a nice day, k眉莽眉k troller... Hello Bix:)
That is a very nice question you've asked here. I was actually thinking about asking your advise about jazz music.
I like jazz and quite enjoy it when I hear one but I have to admit that I am quite illiterate about it :). I actually don't know where to start.
I've noticed that you are a big fan and quite acknowledged about it therefore I've been listening to the links you provide in your answers. They all sound great for me.
So I agree with Fatih, you should guide us a bit into this music :) Only melodic classics with vocals. You know, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Diana Washington...
I don't have a clue as to modern jazz. Yes, I like jazz, of course !
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=D7RJhtVxDC... Not very much. I love jazz. It's the only music that keeps me sane when I am stressed out. ^_^
Instrumental and vocals:
Jazz/Swing/Bebop age, I love Armstrong, Ellington, Fitzgerald, Montgomery and Gillespie
Contemporary jazz by Botti, Garrett, Jarreau, Franklin, Connick Jr. & Reeves. |
