What are the good things and what are the bad things about trabzon?

has anyone been there?

thats ok mamma :D, i can see that you are passionate about this subject

I am from Trabzon. It麓s a jewel.
Most of its people are sweethearts and quite intelligent. Some of them can be rather stubborn. Almost all of them are perfectionists. The whole province is green and humid. The city is cute and its air is clean. Quite a few Trabzonians see themselves above the clouds, some are justified some are not.
Football is number one then comes the hamsi (anchovy). Those too bright to stay in Trabzon enlighten the major cities of Turkey with their ideas and building skills.

Half of my family is from Trabzon.

(+) nature
(-) the damaging of nature
(+) historical sites like Sumela Monastery and Meryem Ana Church
(-) the damage you can see in these places
(+) unique cuisine which is the result of hundreds of years of cultural exchange
(-) knowing that one people in that cultural exchange is missing now.

Some people who frequent this section cannot accept that we can have such feelings, but personally, I see all those people who were forced to migrate away (by reciprocal agreement I must say, before any troll accuses the Republic of Turkey alone) the people of this land. It hurts to see the remains of the chapel on my granny's street. I can't imagine the pain of having to leave your own native lands.

The wave of nationality was the bane of this era. There is no turning back now, but I hope we go towards a more accepting, more open culture in the future.

I'm sorry, Suriyah, I turned the question into a political arena again.

Edit: Ipek's calculation says:

history+Mamma-Mamma= history.

You can't fool mathematics! :P

(+) Food; Anchovies that can be cooked in 101 different ways. I can eat them all :). The amazing corn breads and regular breads they cook in wood coal burning stone ovens..

(+) The unbelievable view and environment. The mountains get so green in spring that your eyes hurt if you look too long.

(+) History; Mamma li Turchi mentioned it.. Same thoughts here.....

(-) Mamma li Turchi ... :)))))

the good thing is because of its nature, culture and history I have always wanted to go there.

the bad thing is it is a bit far, so I have never been there yet :(

Good things are nice green area and lovely food. anchoives even in the breakfast:) the bad things are I think macho boys.,rain.

Senol G眉nes, former coach of the Turkish Football National Team, who led Turkey to the fabulous 3rd place in Worldcup Japan / South Korea in 2002 is from Trabzon.

Yes, I'm a boy and my first thought was football girls!

However, with this success in which Senol G眉nes played an essential role, I had the most emotional moments about Turkey. Everywhere in Europe the Turks went out to the streets and celebrated this dream team.

I have goose pimples when I think back to those times...

SENOL WE LOVE YOU!

Good: has a small Aya Sofya, the villa where Ataturk made plans for a battle (can't remember which) and beautiful Sumela.
What I didn't like about it is that it attracts "Natashas" and, thinking I was Russian, hotel staff told me there was no vacancy. The only way I got a room was by asking at the fourth hotel exactly why I was being turned away. When they explained it, I showed them my passport and got a room.

I haven't been there but I have seen videos and pictures. Beautiful scenery and the monastery of Panaghia Sumela just amazing carved inside the mountain.
The name ''Trabzon'' comes from the Greek ''Trapezous'' or ''Trapezounta''. The city was founded by the Greeks more than two thousand years ago and was the capital of Pontos.
There are still people of Greek origin - Pontian Greeks - living in some villages up in the mountains. They speak ''Pontiaka'', which is a Greek dialect full of ancient Greek words.

I was there last summer during our Black Sea coast tour by coach. I cannot say I liked Trabzon much, compared to other parts of the region.
However, Sumela Monastery is a must to see. Set up in high mountains covered with trees of different shades of green (unfortunately foreign tourists are destroying the monastery. go and see for yourselves). The countryside around Trabzon is just wonderful, words cannot do justice to it.
The city itself seemed a bit crowded to me, I mean the buildings, not people. The old churces are beautiful. Atat眉rk's villa is set up on a hilltop overlooking the sea and is a beautiful house. One gets carried away there.
The cuisine is different and delicious. Ipek not 101 but 256 different ways of cooking hamsi (anchovies).
1- hamsi compote...
2- (do you want me name them all?) lol
their famous Trabzon bread...
Also you must visit the goldsmiths and silversmiths. They have an 'art' of weaving silver and gold strings like embroidery. I was breathless when I saw their creations (bought wife a few pieces of silver jewellery).
And last but not least, the music :) it's just lovely.
