Should I study in Montevideo, Uruguay or Madrid/Barcelona Spain?

I will be taking a fully immersed spanish class for four weeks and am having trouble deciding on which area to study?!

Sorry if my English if not enough good, I'm from Argentina.
If I were you, I would choose Uruguay, because I think South America is more interesting than Europe for an Anglo Saxon like you...
If you want to improve your Spanish, forget Barcelona, they speak Catalan there! (although most people understand Spanish).
The accent in Spain is very different from the accent in Latin America, and although the language if originary from Spain, nowadays almost 90% of all Spanish speaking people in the world are Latin Americans.
At first it will be a bit hard to understand everything, because uruguayans (as well as argentinians) speak Spanish with italian accent! (that's because most people in Uruguay and Argentina have italian ancestors). But you will get used very quickly!
Montevideo is in the eastern shore of the River Plate, and in the other side is located Buenos Aires, a huge cosmopolitan city, considered as the ''Paris of the Americas'', because people think it麓s the most european city in the world (outside Europe, of course!) Montevideo is similar to BA in many aspects, but much smaller and quiet.

I've been to Barcelona in the spring, it's beautiful. By taking the immersion class there, you will be learning Spanish in it's truest form, Catalans. Uruguayan Spanish has had additions and regional pronunciations.

I have been to Montevideo.
Cons:The Spanish is very hard to understand. The center of the city is very pretty, but right outside of it is very poor. Be prepared to see the poverty.
Pros: Much less touristy than Barcelona, awesome culture, fascinating place, interesting surrounding cities/countries.
I studied in Chile. South America is not your typical study abroad experience, but I am so glad I chose it over Europe. In Spain you could probably get by speaking English anywhere. In Uruguay, your Spanish will definately be put to use. Also, you would be very close to Buenos Aires, another magnificient city.

Tons of people study in Barcelona. Why not be different. Try Montevideo. It's a venue most will never see. It has beautiful beaches. Their summer is during North America's winter.
The accent is unique. The people of Uruguay are fun to know.
My guess is that it would be a bit cheaper than living in Spain.

I visited Uruguay and I really liked it. It is veeeery cheap too. You are also right next to Argentina, which is tons of fun. I studied in Chile, and I know I learned spanish much faster than had i studied in Spain. You are forced to learn it, while in Spain so many people speak english, you aren't immersed. Plus I understood uruguayan-spanish much easier than chilean-spanish. From what I've heard, if you want to party, go to spain; if you want to learn spanish, go to south america. either way, its going to be a grea experience!
