What kind of museums do they have in Vienna?

Would it be nice to visit museums in Vienna? How are they different from other famous musems?

At the Hofburg complex, the former Habsburg royal family apartments, contains a number of museums: there is the Imperial Treasuries museum. And the Rustkammer Museum which contains armour, weapons, etc. The Ephesos Museum contains Greek and Roman art. The Sammlung Alter Musikininstrumente houses pianos belonging to Beethoven, Shubert and Haydn.

Natural History Museum has tons of fossils, minerals, zoological collections including extinct species, etc.

Kunsthistorisches or Art History Museum has hundreds of Old Master paintings, Greek Roman and Egyptian art; etc. This collection is largely based on what the Habsburg monarchs had collected over the centuries.

The Albertina Museum contains an impressive collection of drawings and prints including Albrecht Durer's "The Hare".

The Austrian Museum of Applied Arts or MAK contains fine objects from different centuries form around the world including furniture, jewellery, rugs, etc.

The Belvedere Palaces and its formal gardens contain an impressive art gallery - neo-classicism; romanticism; Biedermeier; early 20th century; historicism; realism; and impressionism. It contains the 19th and 20th century collection belonging to the Austrian Gallery. In the Orangery building you will find the Museum of Austrian Medieval Art - masterpieces of Gothic and Renaissance sculpture and paintings.

The Doll and Toy Museum, originally a private museum, it contains dolls and toys from the last 200 years.

The Clock Museum contains more than 3,000 items ranging from astronomical clocks to grandfather clocks.

They have the usual sorts of museums about history and art but there is one museum which really stands out which is the Museum of Music. There is something for all the family and my 5 year old daughter enjoyed it as much as we did.

Most Museums are the usual one (history, nature, art). The "House of Music" - in german "Haus der Musik" is a special experience for everyone.

The "House of Sea" - in german "Haus des Meeres" is a kind of zoo for fish, amphibians, snakes and all that kind of animals. THe special thing is that the whole zoo is located in an worldwar II antiaircarft tower. Now you can get on the top of the building and have a beautiful view of the whole town.

The "Museumsquartier" is a new quarter with 3 museums of modern art and many small modern culture associations. The "Zoom Kindermuseum" is a special Museum for kids.

I was in Vienna last week and it is lovely to eat an ice cream Sisi to the Gloriette (in front of Schonbrunn). You must make a booking for Lipizzaner Museum or Clock Museum... their Museums seems to be occupied and it is better to have ticket in advance (on line or friends)
