Vienna, Austria?

I was just wanting some info on the place since I'm going there in a couple weeks.

I live in the U.S.A. I was wondering about how long the flight from New York would be, what the time difference is, and what the weather will be like. Also some ideas for gifts that I could get there for family and friends would be nice....and anything else you can think of XD.

It's a very nice city, yes, and you picked the best time of year to visit. Weatherwise, pack what you would for New York. It probably won't be as hot, but you never know. Time difference is 6 hours, now that Europe moved to DST as well. Flight time depends, but is generally about 6 hours.

May I say that "Mozartkugeln" are more of a Salzburg tradition, although you can get them in Vienna, of course, too. They are, however, not considered the "national candy" (there isn't one.)

It's a great city, very old city and the architecture is fantastic. Mozart Kugeln is everywhere, they're the little chocolate marzipan balls with a picture of Mozart on the front. That is the national candy and you can find it everwhere in the country, that makes a nice gift. If you're in New York the time difference is 6 hours ahead of you. The flight is about 14 hours long.

They had a pretty mild winter, so spring is around the corner for them. Go to weather.com for a travel forecast before you go.

Vienna is famous for its coffee and desserts not just for its music history and palaces, museums, churches, etc. Visit the famous Cafe Hawelka on Dorotheergasse, or Demel on Kohlmart and try their coffee and desserts (cake, pastries, etc). I recommend the Sachertorte which is a delicious, rich chocolate cake. But to take back home, purchase boxes of chocolates and several pounds of coffee (Vienna imports some of the best in the world) from a specialty shop or from Julius Meinl a store that sells a wide selection of Austrian and European delicacies (on Graben). Wine and beer are also locally produced and you can buy some great wine for a decent price - their ice wine (Eiswien) are delicous and decently priced. Austria for some reason seldom exports its best wine.

Austria is also known for its crystal ware like Swarovski - stop by Lobmeyr glass shop on Karntner Street - and procelain ware from Augarten (local porcelain factory), petit point embroidery, Trachten (local Austrian costume), old prints, stamps, coins, etc. The best pedestrian shopping areas are on Graben, Karntner, and Kohlmart streets. The more cheaply priced area is along Mariahilfer street.
