Hey I am planning to visit washington dc this weekend. which are the best places to visit?

I am having only two days to visit.So what can I cover in too days.kindly suggest please..

I lived in DC for 5 years and loved it. I'd suggest the following:

Day 1:
Starting at the west end of the mall, visit the monuments -- Roosevelt (and check out the view of the Potomac River and Jefferson Memorial), Korean, Lincoln, Vietnam. Walk along the reflecting pool to the WWII monument, and then visit the Washington Monument and snap a photo of the White House. End the day at one or two of the museums. Suggestions: go to the National Gallery to see an excellent collection of Monet paintings. See the diamonds and the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum, or see Dorothy's Ruby Slippers in the American History Museum. There's always the ever-popular Air & SPace Museum as well. Try dinner at a restaurant in Georgetown, and stroll along M Street to see the shops and nightlife afterwards.

Day 2:
Try something further afield. Several suggestions are below, pick one if it sounds good:
- Go to the National Zoo to see the pandas and other wildlife. Stop by the National Cathedral on the way back. Then stroll around Dupont Circle area, and follow with dinner if you have time.
- Visit Georgetown University. Insider's tip: climb the rooftop stairs at Village A for a phenomenal view of the Potomac River down to the Kennedy Center. Go to 35th and Prospect to see the "Exorcist Stairs." Cross the Key Bridge and stroll around Roosevelt Island, a natural preserve in the middle of the Potomac River with gorgeous views of the city. Tour the Pentagon, just a few miles down the road.
- Spend the day in Virginia. See JFK's grave at Arlington National Cemetery, a very powerful sight. Drive to Gravelly Point Park on the Potomac, and watch the planes land literally right over your head at Reagan National Airport. Continue onward to Alexandria, a cute historic town on the water.

Definetely the Simthsonian Museums, I like the one with the hope diamond... Of course the major statues, like the lincoln memorial, washington memorial, things like that! Honestly, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see the white house. When I went, they made everyone clear out because something was happening.. it wasn't that exciting! Have Fun!

Don't miss the Holocaust Museum. It will move you!

Go to Georgetown the best place to shop at in D.C. Urban Outfitters, Adidas, Betsey Johnson, Steve Madden, & many more stores to offer that you would like.

Two must sees are the Holocaust Museum and the FDR Memorial. I espected the Holocaust Museum to be full of photos of people being killed and stuffed in ovens and stuff you usually associate with the Holocaust, but it wasn't. I expected it to ruin my day, but that's not what it shoots for. It just lays out the Holocaust for you, shows you what happened without going for the emotions, and just lets you make up your own mind. I was stunned at how well done it was. That is a definite must see.
The FDR Memorial is the most touching of all the memorials, its almost like an outdoor museum. It really is an emotional experience and gives you a strong feeling of what life during the depression was like and how important FDR was to the country. Its my favorite of the Memorials and is stone's throw away from the Jefferson Memorial.

Also, take a look at this, http://www.historicstrolls.com , I went on one of these at Christmas time and it was the best tour I've ever been on. Not sure if they'll be on when you're here, but these are the best. They perform a play during the tour, performing scenes between showing you locations.
