What state is washington,dc?

Washington DC is not located in any state... the land for DC was given by the states of Maryland and Virginia, and Virginia decided to take back it's small contribution... so the land that DC resides on now, once belonged to Maryland !

It's not a state. It is a district within the United States.

Washington dc is in a district called District of Columbia NOT a state. It is flanked by state of Pennsylvania on the north, West Virginia on the west and North Carolina on the south. On the east is Atlantic Ocean. This is the administration capital of US Govt.
