I really need to go shopping in Zurich...Switzerland .. where should I go??

I'm moved to switzerland 1 month ago...Its very expensive. I really need to go shopping... and please don't tell me to go to the Bahnhofstrasse as its the most expensive street in the world. Where is the cheapest yet still not cheap(quality wise)... even if its wholesellers.

Hi there,
I fully understand your concerns about shopping in Zurich, as I also live in the suburbs.
OK, the others already mentioned the big mall close to Zurich, this is the Glattzentrum in Wallisellen, you can get their bei Train (line 8 or 14) and bus. It is pretty reasonable priced and has a big Zara and H&M store inside. Foodwise, does it have a huge Migros, but if you plan to go their on a Saturday, be early it can be packes, especially before Christmas.
The city center and Bahnhofstrasse are also not that bad, just remember that the Bahnhofstrasse Stores get more and more expensive the closer you get to the lake. So everything close to the main station is pretty resonable and you will find a large seleciton of clothing stores.
Also do not forget the side roads off the Bahnhofstrass, you will be able to find some nice treasures there. A friend of mine just told me, she found a cool shoe store just left of Bahnhofstrasse (coming from main station) somewhere close to the main station (1st, 2nd, 3rd left). They have Italian Shoes at discounted prices.

I do not really agree that going to Germany will give you better prices, as I'm German and regularly shop at home. Brand clothing does cost the same as in Switzerland, if you convert it. The only advantage you might have is, if you have the option to get a VAT refund at the border.

Just do some exploring and enjoy the city.
You will find many things.

I spent most of my time in the old town alshtat (spelled wrong i know) but there was a lot of quirky little shops there

i'm guessing you mean clothes? Zara is pretty cheap, especially during sale season, and i find the quality surprisingly high for the (sale) price. H&M is another place to consider. i've also found Globus and Jelmoli pretty reasonable when it's sales season.

I know from friends that there is a big mall in one of the suburbs
I wish I knew the name I think its in Orelikon, anyway its much cheaper than the city center. Also a bit outside Zurich there is an outlet (Swiss one). I am sure if you ask at the tourist info at the train station in Zurich they will have this info.By the way if they still got the C&A in Zurich city center than go there, they are relatively cheap and the stuff is quite good.

The name of the mall Joesph is decribing is called the Glattzentrum and is near Ikea just outside of Zurich. The Carrefour is also there and will be cheaper in general. My advice to you is take a train or rent a car and go to Konstanz, Germany for more reasonable prices.

Go to Globus, or H & M, or ABM. Good luck!

I know that it has already been said, but H and M is probably one of your best bets.
