Where can I go on a train from Zurich?

What are the major places I can go from Zurich by train (eg. In Italy, Germany, France & Austria) and how long will the train ride be?

You can go pretty much anywhere from Zuerich Hbf. Major places include (hours):
Italy
Rome (8.5)
Naples (11)
Venice (7)

Germany
Frankfurt (4)
Munich (5)
Berlin (8)
Hamburg (7.5)

France
Paris (7.5)
Nice (10)

Austria
Innsbruck (3.5)
Veinna (9)

For all other places and times check out the DB website.

To the next station, city, country and perhaps cover the entire continent!

this should get you traveling .. bon voyage

You can go anywhere! The question is very general. It depends where in Germany, Italy etc that you want to go. Geographicaly you are in the center of it all. Paris, although far mid-southern Italy are not day trips(, even Milano is a stretch but Austrian Border and Southern Germany are. No better way to travel than with the SBB. Interrails are wonderful!

This question is really too general. More details would help give you a better answer.

Zurich is pretty central in Europe.
The fast train took about about 2 1/2 hours to Paris.
To get to Montreaux, about 3 1/2 hours, Geneva is another 3 hours from there. To Bern it is about 1 hour I think.

It took about 8 hours to get to Berlin on an overnight train.

Coming back from Amsterdam took about 13 hours.

Getting to Greece is possible but it will take you about 13 or more hours. It is a great ride though and if you have time fun to make stops for a day or 3 along the way.

The rail pass is a great idea if you are going to be using train over a month or two month period. Each day you travel you fill in a box and you have unlimited travel for that day on trains. In major cities if you go to the startion window you can get a free pass to public transportation like the Ubahn in Berlin or the subways in Paris.

Also, in Switzerland, it is not uncommon for people to smoke marijuana on the trains. If you have your own share and make some friends. If you dont you can usually catch someones eye and they will share.

to an orgasmic high.

Major cities that can be accessed from Z眉rich are:
*Amsterdam (by Night Train or by ICE [high-speed German train] - about 11 hours and 8.5 hours respectively)
*Berlin (again by Night Train or by ICE - about 12 hours and 8 hours 10 respectively)
*Hamburg (and yet again by Night Train or ICE - about 12 hours and 7.5 hours respectively)
*Paris cannot be accessed directly from Z眉rich, you would have to travel via Geneva (about 2 hours by rail) and then it's a 3-hour journey to Paris Gare de Lyon
*Munich (about 4 hours by EuroCity)
*Bern (1 hour by rail)
*Lucerne (50 minutes)
*Milan (4.5 hours by EuroCity)
*Vienna (8 hours by EuroCity)
*Rome (Eight Hours, mixed trains)
*Bruxelles (9 hours, mixed trains)

Hope this VERY lenghthy list has helped you. I invite you to check out the two links below (top being for a very good Night Train company the lower being for the Swiss Federal railways)

Hope this has helped,

S.O.
